Government Restrictions Eased from Wednesday 02/12/2020
Our review of the Government’s new restrictions confirms that
DOSTHILL QUARRY CAN RE-OPEN
(subject to any further Government updates)
We have analysed these in detail on https://www.gov.uk/guidance/local-restriction-tiers-what-you-need-to-know
and here is our summary for your information as our
Covid-Secure Safe Seven Steps
The Government has categorised the West Midlands as Tier 3, so Dosthill Quarry now falls in that Tier!
Outdoor physical activity can continue, so you can travel to Dosthill Quarry for outdoor swimming, but you should aim to reduce the number of journeys you make where possible.
You must not meet socially with anybody you do not live with, or who is not in your support bubble, and you must not socialise in a group of more than 6. This is called the ‘rule of 6’.
Our cafe caravan is permitted to continue takeaway sales, so you can get hot & cold drinks, chocbars, crisps & simple snacks like sausage sandwiches & hot soup to eat outdoors on site while maintaining social distancing, or in your car on the way home.
Ensure you stay 1 metre apart from anyone not in your household or support bubble, when you are outdoors with unlimited ventilation, although 2 metres is still preferable where possible.
Non-essential retail can remain open, but if you need to enter the shop you must wear a mask.
You must not travel if you are experiencing any coronavirus symptoms, are self-isolating as a result of coronavirus symptoms, are sharing a household or support bubble with somebody with symptoms, or have been told to self-isolate after being contacted by NHS Test and Trace.
Staying at home for a prolonged period can be difficult,
so it is important that you maintain your mental & physical wellbeing by swimming in stress-relieving open water, staying healthy, and thereby reducing the load of sick patients on the NHS!!
New swimmers who want to book their first swim at Dosthill Quarry during Covid

TOP 12 TIPS & COVID-AWARE GUIDELINES
FOR MY VISIT TO DOSTHILL QUARRY
ARRIVE SWIM DRIVE. During Covid-19 Dosthill Quarry is open for 1 hour swim sessions on the form below the chart, or 2 hours if you have swum in open water for at least 10 hours in the past 4 weeks, including at least 2 X 1-hour swims, and your body is acclimatised to current water temperatures. You are strongly recommended to wear a full wetsuit until the water temperature rises to 22 degrees. If you don’t have your own wetsuit, rental details are at Tip#2 below. Please adhere to our ARRIVE SWIM DRIVE policy and don’t be tempted to socialise until the Government’s Covid restrictions permit it. Thank you.
FREE REGISTRATION. All swimmers have to be registered for swimming at Dosthill Quarry. Recent or older registrations are still valid, but if you are not sure, your details have changed, or you are not registered, please register now at https://dosthillquarry.com/swimreg/ before completing the booking form below. There is no facility at Dosthill Quarry for registering on site.
RENTAL ARRANGEMENTS. Rental prices are Full Wetsuit £8 & Personal Float £2, payable by contactless card at reception on arrival. Shorties are available at £6, but only for swimmers who have acclimatised to the current water temperature. If you need to rent a float or wetsuit, enter the height & chest/dress size of the person who needs the suit, or enter Float, in the optional rental field on the booking form below. If no rental is needed leave the field blank.
STAY UPDATED. Check this website’s home page at https://dosthillquarry.com/, and this Swim Bookings page before every visit to stay updated with current fast-changing conditions, special arrangements, and last-minute swim availability.
COVID SYMPTOMS. Stay at home if you, or someone you live with, have any of the following symptoms. A high temperature means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back. You do not need to measure your temperature. A new, continuous cough means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours. If you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual. Loss or change to your sense of smell or taste means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal.
BEFORE & DURING BOOKING. Click the link below to watch our Covid Swim Video Briefing, before you arrive. It saves you valuable swim time by not having to attend an on-site briefing which we are phasing out.
Refresh or restore this page just before you check the Currently Available Swim Places chart below Tip#12. Pay by PayPal or card at the link below the chart for a single swim session. Copy the PayPal Transaction ID, and then complete the swim booking form.
COMPLETING THE BOOKING FORM. The swim booking form is located a few paragraphs under the Currently Available Swim Places chart, and is easily identified by the word Required at the start of most fields. The form only takes about 25 seconds to complete.
COMPLETION CARE. Take extra care when completing the following fields:-
Payment Amount. Enter £4 for a single under 15 or dog swim, £8 for a single adult swim, £30 for an under 15 or dog 10-swim pass, or £60 for an adult 10-swim pass.
Receipt Code. Enter the telephone card payment 4 digit receipt code.
Date of Birth. Only for swimmers under 15.
Visit Date. Enter the visit date.
Start & End Times. Remember to enter these or the form will not send.
Email. TAKE EXTRA CARE to enter and check your correct email address or you won’t receive the auto reply confirmation email. More than 50% of our swimmers incorrectly type, mistype, or don’t check what they’ve typed e.g hitmail.com instead of hotmail.com & .con instead of .com.
Participant Agreement at the bottom of the form. Everyone over 18 needs to tick this agreement box. A parent or guardian of an under 18 swimmer must also state the name of that parent before ticking the box. This robust Covid-Secure policy provides us, and the authorities, with essential “track & trace” information in the event of a Covid-19 outbreak among our swimmers.
HAND PROTECTION. Bring disposable gloves with you, or swim gloves, to protect you from Covid-19 infection from our communal surfaces e.g. portaloo toilets and handrails. Don your gloves before you touch the entry handrail or any other communal surfaces. Ensure you don’t touch your face with gloved hands after contact with communal surfaces.
CAR SHARING & SATNAV POSTCODE. Car share ONLY with swimmers in your household or bubble. Do not bring spectators, or invite them to come separately. Best SatNav postcode is B77 1LU, Church Road. Drive past the church on your left, and turn left through our green gates.
CHANGING. Our changing rooms are not allowed to open during Covid, so ensure you park at least 2 metres away from the nearest car, so you can maintain social distancing between your car boot and the boot of adjacent cars in the car park, while you kit-up & de-kit from the boot of your car. Bring a towel robe or dressing gown with you to ensure your personal privacy while changing adjacent to the church graveyard before and after your swim. We don’t want you to frighten the residents or upset their visiting relatives! But don’t feel embarrassed. Wearing a dressing gown before & after swimming is now the latest fashion at our lake!!
SOCIAL DISTANCING. The track from the car park to the lake, and the area around the entry points must be kept clear at all times. Maintain a physical distance of 2 metres or more between yourself, our staff & other non-household swimmers, at the surface, as well as on land. Waving to friends meets this recommendation, whereas handshakes, hugs or elbow bumps don’t. Adopt the rule of the road and pass others on the left while onsite.
COOPERATION. Implement all guidelines of these Top 12 Tips during kit-up, the swim, de-kit and while out of the water. Site staff reserve the right to monitor this, impose social distancing of swimmers, or ask you to leave the site.
Currently Available Swim Places
